Outlier Lens Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy — Outlier Lens
Last updated: 14 September 2026
Outlier Lens does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal information. It has no user accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no third-party services.
WHAT THE EXTENSION DOES
Outlier Lens displays a badge on video thumbnails in YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram profile grids, showing how each post performed relative to the median of the other posts on that page. It reads view counts that your browser has already downloaded in order to display the page you are viewing, performs its calculation in your browser, and draws the result on screen.
It can also show an engagement rate for a post: likes, comments, shares and saves (whichever the site makes public) divided by views, in a panel when you open a post and as a marker on grid posts with unusually high engagement.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
None. We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, location, browsing history, the pages you visit, the accounts you view, or any other personal or identifying information. The extension contains no analytics, telemetry, tracking, or advertising code, and no server to send such information to.
INFORMATION THE EXTENSION STORES
Outlier Lens saves four display preferences using Chrome's built-in extension settings storage: whether badges are shown, whether to mark underperforming posts, the minimum multiplier required to badge a post, and the minimum number of posts that must load before badging begins.
These are stored by Chrome itself. If you have Chrome Sync enabled, Chrome may synchronize these four preferences across Chrome installations where you are signed in to your own Google account. This is handled entirely by Chrome as a browser feature. We never receive these preferences and cannot access them.
Separately, it saves five engagement display preferences (panel on or off, grid markers on or off, YouTube grid markers on or off, the marking threshold, and the minimum views to mark) in Chrome's local extension storage on your own computer. These are not synced.
Engagement counts looked up while you browse are held in memory only for the current page session and are discarded when you close the tab.
No other data is stored.
HOW WE SHARE DATA
We share no data with anyone, because we hold no data. Outlier Lens makes no network requests to any server under our control.
ENGAGEMENT LOOKUPS
YouTube does not include like and comment counts on its grid pages, and Instagram does not always include them for an opened post. To show engagement, Outlier Lens may ask YouTube or Instagram directly for those counts: for a post you open, and, only if you switch on YouTube grid markers, for videos visible on the YouTube page you are viewing. These requests go only to YouTube or Instagram, the same site you are already using, through your existing browser session, and contain only the post's identifier. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
PERMISSIONS
Storage — saves the display preferences described above.
Access to youtube.com, tiktok.com, and instagram.com — required to read the view counts shown on those sites' profile pages and to draw badges over their thumbnails. The extension requests access to no other websites.
On Instagram, the extension reads data from responses Instagram has already sent to your browser, because Instagram does not place view counts into the page itself. This data is read within the page, used only to calculate the badge shown on that same page, and is never modified, redirected, recorded, or transmitted.
